The original farmhouse at Winterfontein was built over 100 years ago, serving generations of farmers who lived off the land and cared for its livestock and wildlife. In 2024, the farmhouse was lovingly restored and rebuilt, preserving its original stonework and charm while introducing modern comfort and solar-powered sustainability.

The result is a retreat that honours its past while offering guests everything they need for a tranquil and comfortable stay — a true reflection of Karoo authenticity and innovation.

Winterfontein remains a working 1,900-hectare farm, home to cattle, Angora goats, Boerbokke, and a variety of wildlife, including kudu, blesbok, gemsbok, and waterbuck. The land also supports a remarkable range of Karoo flora — from spekboom and thorntrees to the rare and ancient Lehmann’s cycads (Encephalartos lehmanii) that thrive across the property.

This balance between farming, conservation, and hospitality is at the heart of what makes Winterfontein special.
